Song Circles
A HEALING SPACE THROUGH PRAYER AND SONG
Every Wednesday evening, we gather for a circle of prayerful singing. The circle seeks to be an alternative prayer space for anyone who feels that the traditional synagogue prayer does not fully meet their needs and who is looking for new ways to pray. In the circle, we sing prayers together from various sources, both from within the Jewish world and beyond.
We draw inspiration from ceremonies and prayers from different cultures around the world and experiment together with another kind of prayer. The space invites presence in the here and now, and from that presence we raise our voices together. We allow the emotions and the deep intentions in our hearts to be expressed through voice, prayer, and song. In the circles, there is room for everyone to bring themselves in the way that feels right for them. One can sing or dance, or simply sit or lie down quietly and listen to the harmony that emerges in the space.

WHAT’S SPECIAL?
The circle offers people a community and a home for renewed prayer for anyone seeking a form of prayer different from the conventional synagogue service. Sitting in a circle around candles in soft lighting creates a non-hierarchical space where everyone is equal and everyone’s voice can be heard. For a moment, we can forget the rush of daily life and its endless pace, and remember the heart and the personal prayer of each and every one.
In the circle, we disconnect for about two hours from the world of doing—away from technology and everyday conversation—and enter a space where the heart can be free to feel whatever arises. The soul can lift and connect to the infinite, and the singing seems to happen on its own.
CIRCLE FACILITATORS
The circle is led by Dov Wieder, a musician and prayer leader, and ocassionally additional circle facilitators join as guests. Accompanying the circle on a regular basis are: Yaara Smina and Eliyahu Rosenbloom on percussion, Shahar Sorek on clarinet, Amalia Zeitlin on violin, and Miriam Arig on cello.
The circle uses minimal amplification, allowing all participants to become one choir for an evening- an evening in which harmony emerges and togetherness is deeply felt.
